Bosworth hall receptionist dies the…
Bosworth hall receptionist dies the cardinal sin and is quite happy to pass my room key to a stranger who gives her his room key because he wants the snooker table next. Not acceptable that this Man is walking around the hotel with my room key. Lucky nothing was taken from room but ill never book a hotel of yours ever again. Security breach. Receptionist should be sacked

Filthy and not worth the stress
Checked out after enduring just one night out of two that I booked and paid-for at the Royal Hotel Scarborough. It was a business trip.
So dirty everywhere and when I complained the staff extremely rude and unhelpful. Not even a stirrer let alone a spoon for the single sachet of coffee to make in the filthy cup. Carpet had litter all over it, as did the chair. None-existent free wifi. No bath mat just a filthy floor. Toilet was as dirty as the coffee mug. And the sink tap - it was disgusting. I took pictures and showed them to the manager on duty who said it looked like rust to him - no apology. He also hadn't input my work address on my invoice so when I checked out I was told by the other duty manager that no one could amend the details retrospectively so I can submit the bill for expenses. Totally ludicrous situation. I was given the run-around on the telephone numbers, being told to speak directly to the Hotel reception (who had directed me to Customer Services in the first place). Fortunately I managed to speak to someone in 'Control' who helped me with getting the invoice. So much for catering for business travellers with great level of facilities. If I could give this no stars I would. I will NOT be staying here again.

Decent value for money at Britania hotel in Edinburgh. Good location, good value. A tad rough round the edges mind you. But absolutely fine for a short stay.

Grand Burstin Hotel in Folkstone
I had stayed at the Grand Burstin Hotel recently. I can honestly say that there was nothing Grand about it. I know you get what you pay for, but I did not expect to enter the room with a balcony covered in cigarette ends. Though the room was clean, the balcony had not been cleaned by the cleaners. The bathroom light did not work via the light switch, only by the isolator switch, not to much of an issue for me as I could reach the isolator, but a short person could not reach the switch. One side of the bed headboard was broken, and covered by a pillow, only noticed on the first evening with wood splinters clearly visible. The bathroom sink took ages to empty of water. One of the reception female staff members was very rude, and had no interest in reporting of cigarette butts left on the balcony!
As it is illegal to smoke in hotels, and there are signs outside the hotel and on each room doors stating no smoking, this hotel clearly thinks they are exempt from the smoking law, thus allowing people to smoke in the rooms.
I am not an anti smoker, nor a non-smoker as I do smoke myself, I do follow the smoking law.
Britannia Hotels clearly do not check up on their hotels.

We booked a weekend away to the Royal Clifton hotel in Southport, I read some of the reviews and thought it was going to be awful but all I can say is it was nothing but a pleasure to stay there,I have nothing but praise for all the staff who were all really helpful and polite which made our stay really pleasant.I would highly recommend this hotel the rooms were spotless and comfy.

We recently stayed in a windowless room…
We recently stayed in a windowless room ( we knew this at the time of booking) for 3 nights on 27th May. This room was charged at £517 for the 3 nights, we understood that most hotels where fully booked during these dates so we're prepared to pay that price.
I have never seen a bathroom in a hotel in such a dirty, unsafe and unsanitary state. If we could have found another room in another hotel we would have. Very disappointing!

Worst hotel on the jubilee…
I stayed in this hotel (the prince of wales) (southport) on the jubilee weekend with my son. And paid £187 for 3 nights.. Where do I start well I went into the room and first thought was looks nice. Then at night when we tried sleeping in our beds . There was pigeons in the roof running up and down screaming. Like they was partying . So at 5.30 am I decided enough is enough . Went down to reception . To complain . The manager was very rude to me.. diddnt want to know . So then the night staff I asked can we change rooms . So he said come back at 3pm the next day . So Mr and my son went out for the day . Came back at 3pm then they changed our room. I thought brilliant . Then the next night in our new room we was facing the lift in the hallway . And there was a fire door in our room. Behind the firewood was the next room. Which the firedoor had a big gap underneath and at the side. Then as we were trying to sleep we could hear the people in the next room snoring really loud as If they was in our room. So I had my 3 nights with no sleep. Then as we entered the lift there was a box of viagra on the lift floor with a piece of paper with someone's name on it. I then went to check out and some lunatic from the flats next door to the hotel was sat in the reception talking to himself and pestering all the people who was staying at the hotel. If your thinking of booking this hotel . I wouldn't bother . I rated it not even 1 star

Worst Hotel of my life: Avoid!!!
After a long journey we arrived in Buxton Palace Hotel. After the payment of £130 for the room, we’ve been accommodated in the worst room I ever stayed in my life, even in basic accommodation!!! Apart from the fact we had to walk a quarter of a mile, down long dark, dirty and scruffy corridors, up and down several flights of stairs, with our heavy cases, before we arrived in the corridor where our room was and there were piles of dirty laundry and towels just outside our room. The dirty laundry was still there the day after when we left, despite we informed the reception. In our room the windows were filthy, as well as the carpet. Our towels were scruffily folded in a dusty wardrobe and they were DIRTY. I had to walk back all the way to the reception, with those dirty towels, as there wasn’t any other way to communicate with them: if you want to call the hotel the call is charged!!! The mattress was uncomfortable, lumpy and noisy. The noise from the plumbing was horrendous. No free internet connection, couldn’t even use our own because lack of signal in our location in the hotel. Totally spoiled our holiday and caused embarrassment because we brought our family from abroad to visit England and, of course, we couldn’t enjoy our visit to Buxton! The Customer Service we contacted the day after is scandalous: they didn’t even apologise, had rude attitude.

Disgusting
Unbelievably bad hotel chain. It's shocking that they are allowed on hotel comparison sites.. they should be taken off. They have no compassion for their guests at all and are clearly just running beautiful buildings into the ground for their own profit.

Every surface was covered in a 'film' of grease or water marks from previous dirt. The room smelt like musty damp. The bed was uncomfortable, lumpy and needed replacing. The carpets were filthy - not just stains but also hairs, fingers nails(!) and dust showing that they are not properly vacuumed.

The coridoor outside my room smelt like vomit for the entire time I was in the hotel - I assume someone was sick on the floor but the smell remained. There was also dirty plates outside one room along the coridoor that were not picked up from the time I checked-in to the time I checked-out! The look of the left over food made me feel queasy.

I found a small piece of soap with pubic hairs on it in the bathroom! If someone had properly cleaned the room they would have seen it. The shower curtain also had brown stains that rubbed off - a simple clean would have fixed this. All the taps had limescale on them.

The bathroom floor was soft and had duct tape holding the skirting board together - clearly there is a huge damp probably that no one is trying to fix, they just attempt to fix the symptoms of it. You can smell the damp floor throughout the room.

The receptionist was eating McDonalds when I arrived, and continued to eat the burger with one hand whilst she was checking me in! I could see her using greasy fingers on the computer mouse.. disgusting! The pen she handed me had burger grease on it too. I felt quite repulsed and should have seen this was a sign.. but unfortunately I stayed.

The breakfast was just frozen cheap bits and pieces cooked in oil and left out to go dry. The sausages looked the absolute cheapest you can get, and the bacon was hard and dry by the time I got to the buffet. No one was around to replace it and they didn't check to see if it was OK. They just don't care.

I feel ashamed that these hotels are allowed to operate in this country. Someone should intervene as ultimately these beautiful properties will be sold and then demolished due to years of neglect.

AVOID AT ALL COST
Booked at Manchester airport hotel unfortunately needed to cancel the rooms. One was free cancellation the other not. The company had already taken £45 from me and wanted to take a further £45 for the cancellation of the room. The initial £45 was for verification of my payment details so assumed this would be deducted from the total cost of £115. The company suggest I should pay £90 for the cancellation of one room that didn’t even cost £90 for one night. I have had booking.com email on my behalf to request that both rooms are cancelled at no charge. Had no response. I have emailed twice. Had no response. No one answers the phones and the CEO hasn’t bothered either to respond to me query. An utterly awful company with zero customer service and want to rob you of your money. AVOID at ALL COSTS. Booking.com have tried to help and this review is in NO WAY related to them ONLY TO BRITANNIA no wonder the owner is a millionaire scamming company! Awful.

Without doubt the worst hotel I have ever stayed in
Where to start. Yes it’s cheap that’s the only thing going for it. We travelled to Manchester on business and being Southerners completely clueless about the area. Stupidly without reading the reviews booked in for an overnight stay.

Hotel smelt of damp fixtures and fittings pulled off the wall. Room covered in long cobwebs. Not being over dramatic cobwebs hanging from the middle of the room to the edge. How the cleaner avoids these by just walking in is a mystery. Looked like a Halloween theme room. The whole sheets of very thick and sticky wallpaper hanging off the wall. Broken radiators so a cheap electric heater plugged in it’s place. Just filthy all over. Lights not working broken furniture. Didn’t even try the bath/shower.

Fire alarm went off for ten minutes at half past two in the morning as well.

Our colleague noticed some tell tale marks on his kettle looked inside and I cannot even bring myself to write what was in there. Needless to say some previous guest was not happy either. He complained and was offered another nights free stay….?

The staff were lovely though and working with what they had.

Food overpriced and awful too. Spend another £20 and stay in the Premier inn where they have a certain level of hygiene and cleanliness otherwise you’ll seriously regret it and forbid you had to witness what was in the kettle.

Hotel Closed
Having booked our overnight stay and airport parking at the Russ Hill Hotel (Gatwick) nearly a year ago AND having received booking confirmation from Britannia Hotels 2 weeks before we travelled, on arriving at the hotel it was CLOSED. Apparently the hotel was now being used for asylum seekers. Wonderful start. So....a guy at the entrance to the car park gave me a map to the hotel to which I had been designated. This was the Europa Hotel, Balcombe Road. On arrival I had great difficulty in finding a parking slot but eventuaslly found one amongst a load of rubbish and scrub. Not the ideal place to leave my car for 2 weeks whilst on holiday. In addition the cost had been increased. Overall I doubt very much whether I will be choosing ANY Britannia hotels in the future.

£600 Disaster Unclean , Unsafe", unmaintained " Gutted "
What a disgrace and potentially dangerous not fit for purpose... Not withstanding my review on Booking.com I feel it is necessary to highlight to as many potential customers as possible.. A birthday treat for my wife turned into a £600 weekend stay in a appalling, unkept ,unclean hotel.. my email to Britannia Hotels Customers service did get a response from the Manager all be it arrogant and certainly not apologetic leaving out of his replay many of the issues raised. Concerns that as a Hotel understanding of the FSO ( Fire Safety Order ) Part B Building Regs, and the newly presented Building code even more worrying ... Ironically the ground floor room we were issued was we were told "an upgrade" we can only imagine how bad the first room may have been. The new room having a patio for our use we had our dogs with us so that was great ... Until we got to the room.... Unfortunately i am unable to show the pictures which would tell the story. but in summary
1. No hot water for three days Friday to Sunday, this became so bad that one customer was making a complaint loudly in reception that we understand required police.
2. No ventilation mechanical or natural windows all fixed shut both bathroom and bedroom.
3. A fire door that was not compliant, with a door closer that did not close door and gaps around door that were random and too big.
4. Electrical light fitting not fitted properly.
5. A shower Valve that was fitted upside down as such could not turn on even for a cold shower
6. Carpet grippers turn up at end trip hazard and very sharp
7. Broken Furniture
8. Housekeeping none existent pictures of cobwebs all around windows and generally unclean
9.The Patio.. we had a broken table , one broken chair.. grass that was 200mm long and bags of dog facias.
10 The lack of Maintenance and decoration being blamed on the Listed status of this once beautiful Victorian land Mark
11 .. Having booked a birthday meal on the Saturday night in there renowned and respected restaurant.. we then find out that not only was it closed but our choice of menus was restricted to three items all three prepared many hours before opening and so bad not even our dogs would eat it ...

In summary and Notice to all ... We have been to this hotel before so as returning customers we were very disappointed as were other customers
